Terms & Conditions
Last updated 2026. These terms apply to your use of CarpChip (“CarpChip”, “we”, “us”). By subscribing you confirm you have read and accept them.
1. The service
CarpChip is a fishery record-keeping tool for lake owners. It lets you tag and record fish, log catches (in the app or through a public QR form used by anglers), and view reports on tagged fish, catches and weights. Features available to you depend on your subscription tier.
CarpChip is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may add, change or remove features to improve the service.
2. Accounts and eligibility
You must be 18 or over and provide accurate details. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us immediately at hi@carpchip.com if you suspect unauthorised access.
3. Subscriptions, billing and renewal
Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring monthly basis through Stripe. Prices are shown in GBP and include VAT where applicable. Your subscription renews automatically each billing period at the then-current price until cancelled.
We may change prices with reasonable notice; changes apply from your next renewal. Any discount or promotion code applies only for the period stated on the code.
4. Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel at any time from the billing portal in your account. Cancellation stops future payments; access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not provide pro-rata refunds for part-used periods.
If a payment fails, access may be paused until payment succeeds. Please download your data before cancelling — see section 7.
5. Acceptable use
Do not misuse the service: no unlawful content, no attempts to break, overload or reverse-engineer the platform, no sharing your account with third parties who are not part of your fishery operation, and no uploading of content you do not have the right to use.
Your public QR catch form is open to anglers. You are responsible for the content submitted through it and for telling anglers what you do with the information they provide.
6. Your data and content
You own your lake, fish and catch data. We process it only to provide the service, as set out in our data retention policy.
Where photos are supported on your plan, you grant us a limited licence to store and display them inside your account solely so the service works. We do not reuse your photos or data for marketing or sell them to third parties.
7. Backups, photos and data loss — important
You are responsible for keeping your own copies of your data.
CarpChip provides a “Download my data” button on your dashboard and on each lake page. We strongly recommend you download and keep a copy of your data regularly (at least monthly, and always before cancelling or making bulk changes). Those downloads are your backup of record.
We do not archive fish or catch photos. Photos are not retained as part of our long-term records and are not included in the data download. If you want to keep photos, save them from your device or from the social image export at the time you create them.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss, corruption, deletion or unavailability of data or photos, however caused, including after account closure, cancellation, non-payment, or the end of the retention period. No claim for lost data will be accepted where a current download was available to you.
8. Availability
We aim to keep CarpChip available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. The service may be unavailable during maintenance or because of failures in third-party providers (hosting, payments, email, network).
9. Limitation of liability
CarpChip is a record-keeping tool. It does not provide fishery management, stocking, veterinary, feeding or commercial advice, and you must not rely on it as such. All decisions about your lake, stock and business remain yours.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss of data, loss of profit, loss of stock, business interruption, or any indirect or consequential loss. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to the subscription fees you paid in the 3 months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
10. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms or remain unpaid. On closure, your data is handled in line with our data retention policy — download your data first.
11. Privacy
We process personal data in line with UK GDPR. See our data retention policy for what we store, for how long, and how to request deletion.
12. Changes and contact
We may update these terms; material changes will be notified by email or in-app and apply from your next renewal. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
